History

Charles Collard (1874-1969) acquired Honiton Potteries just after the 1st world war.  Trained within the Arts & Crafts tradition, with experience at various Devon and Dorset potteries including the famous Poole Pottery, he transformed Honiton Pottery into a thriving business. He introduced the recognisable hand painted Honiton style which continued after his tenure, and designs including 'Eastern Scroll', 'Persian' & 'Jacobean' which have a distinctive 1930's look. The 'Devon Leaf' was designed by Paul Redvers  after his acquisition of the pottery in 1961 after which point the pots were moulded and pressed in white clay rather than hand thrown.
