The play later referred to as "660 Bass", as then Tennessee QB Peyton Manning explained years later, turned the entire Alabama-Tennessee rivalry around in seconds.

Entering the matchup at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, the Vols had not defeated the rival Crimson Tide in nine seasons. On the opening play, Manning hit Tennessee WR Joey Kent over the middle, while all in attendance watched Kent burn past defenders to the end zone.

Tennessee never relinquished momentum, eventually defeating Alabama 41-14.

The Vols were ranked No. 6 nationally at the time, while the Crimson Tide were pegged at No. 12. The victory would later propel Tennessee to a seven-game winning streak over Alabama, from 1995 through 2001.
